Sporty Shorties!

NHL PLAYOFFS! Is anyone watching?? Does anyone even know who won it last year? Yeah I thought so. Well the Frozen Four in the NHL is San Jose, Calgary, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay. Im sure the TV ratings will be killer in the Finals -- especially if its Calgary v Tampa! Shoot half of America probably dont even know where Calgary is.

Lightning - I barely know Ning! Speaking of Tampa, I recall not that long ago - you couldnt give Lightning tickets away -- they tried though - you got a free ticket with a “champburger” purchase at Checkers. I used to go over to checkers for lunch and get tickets and take the IT staff to the game after work, when I was in Tampa. Im thinking it was the champburgers that hurt the attendance there, you could only eat so many of those in your whole life before you become one. Checkers, makes McDonalds look like fine dining. Their slogan “Ya Gotta Eat” - what does that say... we know our food is THAT bad but heck YA GOTTA EAT. More like - “Ya Gotta EEEK!”

See Shells at the Sea Show This past weekend was the Air and Sea show in Ft. Lauderdale. A real extravaganza for the bullets and bombs crowd. All part of the Millitarys “Fleet Week“ Celebration. For those who dont know, the Sea Show consists of (usually) an Aircraft Carrier parked right off Ft. Lauderdale Beach loaded up with some impressive flying machines that take turns wowing the millions lining the beach with fly overs and aerial stunts. The WWII Corsairs are cool, but little compares to the F-14s and F-15s when they turn on the afterburners. The F-16s were impressive as well. Hard not to be in awe of the F-117 and B-2 Stealth planes. Pretty impressive display overall, and a good time is had being that its on the beach and most everyone is scantly clad (although most people there really needed to cover up!!) The drawback is that the military makes no bones about this being a recruiting bonanza. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Reserves, even Coast Guard had recruiting tents set up everywhere. They used sneaky little tactics like chin-up, and push-up contests for T-shirt giveaways - but first they got your name and number -- good practice for what you will be doing most of the time if you sign up!! Bottom line, as cool as this was it paled in comparison to the Hardware pulled out when Army (West Point) visited Colorado Springs to play Air Force in NCAA Football. The Corps was doing their best to impress the boys from West point, while the Millitary Academy called up some artillery from Ft Collins to not be totally outdone by their blue clad collegues. Best part is there was a football game too.

NBA Finals If the finals turn out to be Detroit vs San Antonio There will be NCAA like final scores, 61-57 , 65-63 that type of thing, with more clutching and grabbing than a Saturday night in Opium Gardens. You know the league is cringing thinking about that, they may have lower ratings than Hockey for that finals.... ya think anyone even remembers that San Antonio is the defending champ??

TV and the NFL Well while the other sports struggle for attention, far and away the biggest winner in the sports ratings is the NFL. The undisputed king of USA Sports. The NFL even has its own Network: The NFL Network. They will show every pre-season game this year, and my guess is multiple times - I bet replays of NFL PRE-SEASON GAMES get better ratings than NHL and NBA Playoffs.
Heck the DRAFT got more viewers than NHL Playoffs - 4 times as many - and they werent even PLAYING!!

Just how popular is the NFL Game 7 of the Eastern Conf. NBA Playoffs between Miami and New Orleans. 21000 people in Miami to see the game, the biggest cheer of the night, Not a slam dunk or a three-pointer, when they showed the now dread-less Ricky Williams on the TV screen watching the game.

Last Call One Final Point that is near and dear to me. recently the Miami Beach City management (aka IDIOTS) are trying to pass an ordinance banning liquor sales after 2am. Excuse me folks -- maybe in sleepy little retirement towns this is a good idea. THIS IS SOUTH BEACH - people do not come here for restful vacations, they come for the night life and partying. While Miami is opening up 24 hour liquor areas and drawing new clubs and of course foot traffic, Miami Beach is trying its best to kill what MADE IT what it is. Just ask anyone from Rochester, NY how Cool a 2am last call is....

Peace out - from down here at the Bottom!

Insignificant Ramblings

The weekends events -- before they get "lost"
Friday was a marathon evening, started drinking early, Bourbon I believe and was barhopping around... one incident of note, an ugly one. Wont go into details, except this one..., I created quite a scene, and some doo-gooders tried to but in. I quickly verbally explained to them that this was personal business and they would be better off not getting involved. That and the psychotic look I had must have been convincing as they backed off, but I sure didnt stick around to see much more. Thats all on that.
Saturday was much better. I made it up to the Air and See show.
Always impressive when F-14s, F-15s, and F-16s are screeching by overhead.
The place was packed with thousands of barely clad onlookers that in itself is a good time.
The Canadian Snowbirds (flying troop - not the people who "only live here during the winter") were there (Canadas Blue Angels) Impressive flying. I think the U.S. Navys Blue Angels were there too, but I didnt see them.

I got a nasty sunburn. Soo much for my Theory of "Grecian Formula" Natural sunscreens!! So I spent the rest of the day looking like a clown with cold cream on my burnt face. That and the whiskey I was drinking made me have to take a nap.
I woke up later Saturday evening and went out to another local Irish pub, where the most interesting thing there was the one Bartender. Just some drinking going on, and in a drunken sloppy state with a burnt red face I wasnt really into socializing, oh well. Not sure much about what happened after as I was a sloppy mess. But I did wake up at home -- so that is not TOO bad. Now its Sunday, and after a quick trip to church to hear a sermon I swear was directed right at me for Friday nights incident -- How to not let Anger dominate your being... hmmm yeah. So fueled by that I went into the office, where I basically set up appointments for Monday then left, still fueled by the sermon to do some good, I took my partner to a bar for lunch and some drinks. Miami Heat lost game six, and then I went to the Beach. Where I saw the two most stunning bartenders from my favorite Bar! Yes that would be my friend from the night before. I went over and TRIED to get a little conversation going.... but I dont know what happened, perhaps seeing these two TOTAL hotties with their clothes off, got me rattled, I was babbleing like a ditzy idiot. Not making any sense. Well not like I was going anywhere with that. Alas there was plenty of other action later in the day[grin]. Not quite of that caliber, but that one gaff was the only flaw in an otherwise great day!!

Yeah basically just another weekend in my world!
